Agreed.

However, I think it’s important to note that high-performing content is not the most artistic, creative, or even best. Quality is subjective.

Platforms want to promote content that keeps people engaged. They are giving consumers what they want to see. Not what is best for users or society.

Another important point is that it’s not just about platforms. We all have the historically unprecedented opportunity of publishing content on our own websites and newsletters. For a few dollars a month we can all reach the world with our content.

The big platforms can be an important distribution channel, but it is not a good strategy to depend on them for your livelihood.
